Hightown is a charitable housing association (operating in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire) aiming to help people who need support and care or who cannot afford to buy or rent a home at market values.
We do this by building hundreds of much needed new homes and providing care and supported housing services for a wide range of people. Building homes has always been a key part of our identity. Over 50 years Hightown has developed ambitiously for its size and delivered thousands of homes across the Three Counties, many through our own land-led projects.
The demand for affordable housing in our region has always outstripped supply. Hightown remain committed to the principle that increasing the supply of affordable housing is fundamental to alleviating the housing crisis.
Rent for Less (also known as Intermediate Rent) is a great option for people who are not ready to commit to buying a home right now or who have difficulty securing a mortgage at the moment but who would like to save to buy a home in the next five years. Hightown offers homes at 20% lower rent than you would expect to pay for a similar home in a similar area, if you were renting from a private landlord. Rent for Less homes are usually let on an assured shorthold tenancy basis with a minimum six month contract period up to a maximum of five years.
You will need to complete Hightown's application process and meet the eligibility criteria before we can offer you a Rent for Less property. We require an advanced rent payment and a deposit prior to moving in. Your deposit will be registered in the government approved Tenant Deposit Scheme and we complete a full check in and check out inventory inspection.
Shared Ownership may be an option for you if you are looking to step onto the property ladder. The home ownership scheme allows you to buy a share in your home and rent the remaining share at a subsidised rate. Over time, you can buy more shares in your home.
There is an eligibility criteria that you would need to meet and you can find more information on our website regarding the shared ownership process.
Hightown have both new build and resale shared ownership properties available. If you have any questions or require any additional information please get in touch with the Homeownership Team.
